Sanitary piping 360° rotating joint case study VOL.3
Improved smooth movement! A case of adopting a swivel joint for an automatic can opener in the beverage manufacturing process.
The "automatic bag opening machine" is equipment that automatically opens bags containing powder and feeds the contents into a hopper. During cleaning, the hopper lid automatically closes, but the cleaning line attached to the lid needs to operate in sync with the opening and closing movement, leading to the consideration of using hoses. During the testing phase of the prototype, it was observed that the hose bends significantly in a diagonal direction when the lid opens and closes. This caused a large load and twisting with a soft hose, raising concerns that it could break if operated in that condition. As a solution, part of the design was changed from a hose to a fixed piping system with a "swivel joint." By modifying the design, the problematic areas were improved to allow for smooth movement as anticipated. Furthermore, eliminating the use of hoses resolved concerns about twisting and breakage, allowing for successful delivery to the customer's factory.
